Kuroe Akaishi is an introverted, quiet, and seemingly normal high school girl. Though accustomed to being alone, her dreary days begin to change when she meets Arata Minami, a bright and handsome boy in her class. Despite his popular status, he is kind enough to reach out to an outcast like her; soon, Kuroe finds her heart begins to pound around him.
It keeps pounding and pounding and pounding until. Kuroe transforms into a monstrous kaijuu! She has a certain affliction: as her embarrassment grows, so do the monstrous appendages out of her body, and when it hits a peak, she unleashes the full extent of her transformation.
At the same time, beauty meets the kaijuu, and Japan faces off against the looming threat of the mysterious monster. Can Minami accept her feelings, or will he too be frightened off by her colossal form? Depending on his decision, the world may experience the full devastation of a girl's heart-pumping, youthful love.

Having read the two volumes available of this manga, I can only say I have been totally hooked, and I will surely buy the nexts installments. At the surface, reading the sinopsis, you, like anyone else, would think that this idea of a shoujo where the female protagonist transforms into a godzilla is stupid. And I have to agree, it really is. But the fact that she transforms when she gets really embarrassed and when she doesn't accept her feelings gives a good metaphorical insight in this romance story, turning love from an internal conflict to a very external one.
The dialogs and art style are . cute as hell, and although some parts are pretty cliché, the secondary characters make for it (I'm looking at you Manatsu, the kaiju fanatic). In these firsts chapters you can already see good character development from the protagonist, who had shut herself to other people to avoid the transformation. Little by little she starts to open, knowing very well that she is putting the city in danger in the process!
Otome Kaijuu is a Seinen comedy disguised as a Shoujo romance, but is actually still a decent romance with satisfying progression. At first the characters seem like parodies of Shoujo romance archetypes, but those flat, seemingly generic characters all develop naturally beyond their tropes to reveal interesting traits, hobbies, and reasons why they act as they do. Some characters have yet to receive that treatment, but I have little doubt at this point that their development will be satisfying.
At its core, it's a story about not judging by initial appearances because people are more complex than they may seem, and it adheres to that philosophy . not only through its characters and storyline, but also its own structure and artstyle. The art is high quality throughout, whether in the cute Shoujo artstyle or when things are weirder. All of this makes for an enjoyable, albeit short experience that might not change your view on the world or cause fits of laughter, but will still resonate and thus is absolutely worth a read.

Afflicted by a "mysterious illness," high school first year Kuroe has spent her entire life avoiding socializing with others. However, after coming into contact with Minami Arata, the most popular boy in school, something changes--and Kuroe's true powers are unleashed.

I liked the art! It was really unique. The story was fine, but I found that it quickly became a one dimensional setting because the people dont talk that much about the kaijuu in the manga. It would be nice if the mangaka made the school setting more developed.
That way, MC's feelings towards Minami-kun would be more dramatic and the choice between ignoring him and staying human or trying to love him and turning into the kaijuu would be way more entertaining. The MC doesn't really think about the ramifications of becoming a kaijuu enough imo. It's obvious that her mom knows something she doesn't, and is likely the reason behind her ability to turn into a kaijuu. Manatsu is funny, but i wish she would be more than just the nice social bestfriend type that is also a weirdo. Her character needs to develop more. Also, either the general feel of the school needs to develop or the lonely aspect of Kuroe need to be shown more. I think the concept is unique, but author is tiptoing the edge in regards to Minami-kun and the complexity of his character.
He has none. He seemed to have some sort of inferiority complex in 1st chapter, but he overcame them so quickly that they are hardly worth mentioning, which is a shame. It was interesting to see how he used to be fat, and how he deals with the difference in treatment.
It would also have been nice to see more of Minami's feeling of gratitude to Kuroe, as she's the only person keeping it real with him (in the beginning) or the fact that he has no friends and likely, no boy wants to befriend him at school. He too could be an interesting character, but his interesting bits aren't focused on.
Anyway, lastly, i'm kind of miffed that the confession happened so soon. Chapter 7 is wayyy too soon, author could've expanded on the loneliness and confusion that Kuroe felt, or the insecurities and the denial of her feelings she might've had. An emphasis on the sheer difference between their social caste would be VERY appreciated. I liked the comedic aspects of this. This is a manga that i feel is even better than MLB. I used to think shoujo adventure mangas were extinct, but now that this exists, i hope they don't screw it up. The weird fanservice of Kuroe, who has the body of a 10-year old, is a bit weird though, and i wish they'd stop it.
